Microsoft some years back introduced the NTFS file system in Windows NT. NTFS stands for New Technology File System. It was also used in Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista. The latest Microsoft operating system, Windows 7, also utilizes NTFS as the native file system.
A hard drive using an NTFS partition tends to be very stable. It is faster and more secure than its predecessor, FAT32.
